About the Course
Developed by Ridge Road, "From Scripts to Responsibilities" invites you into a transformative journey to move beyond scripted land acknowledgements and toward practices that are accountable, ethical, and relational. In this course, you will explore the deeper histories and truths behind land acknowledgements, unpack the impacts of settler colonialism through a First Nations lens, and reflect on your own relationship to the Indigenous lands you live and work on. The course includes 1 hour and 10 minutes of interactive video lessons plus a comprehensive workbook. Depending on your pace, expect to spend about 2–2.5 hours in total. Through an anti-oppressive and relational approach, you’ll gain the tools to examine your positionality, understand why surface-level acknowledgements often fall short, and discover concrete ways to transform words into meaningful action. By the end, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to create acknowledgements that resonate with authenticity and contribute to ongoing responsibilities as a treaty citizen. Enroll now and take the first step toward making your acknowledgements a living practice of respect, reciprocity, and responsibility.

What people are saying
Hear directly from learners who have taken this course and put the teachings into practice. Their stories reflect the impact, clarity, and confidence the course brings to those wanting to engage more respectfully and responsibly.
I am a settler, and I have been thinking about the tone and message of land acknowledgements over the past 15 years, while living on several different territories. This course helped me revisit what I want to say with the help of clear criteria and sound justification. After this short and accessible online course, I feel better supported to continue engaging in land acknowledgements that are respectful, grounded in relationships, and that convey humility.
Associate Professor, Queen's University
From Scripts to Responsibilities is not only one of the most informative courses I have taken, but is also so engaging and well designed that it makes the learning extremely digestible, concrete, tangible and actionable. It feels like a series of conversations, one that recognizes positionality and lived experience and invites and welcomes everyone, regardless of where they may be on their journey. As a newcomer to Canada and a settler on this land, this course has invited me to reflect on my life story and its relationship to the story, history and legacy of this land in an intimate, meaningful and critical way. It has left me with so much to think about and at the same time, given me a clear sense of actions I can take right away. I recommend it to everyone. Thank you for designing this course!
